PRESS: Russia can become carbon-neutral by 2060

MOSCOW, Oct 6 (PRIME) -- The Economic Development Ministry has sent for approval of other ministries a new version of the strategy of Russia’s low-carbon development until 2050, which envisages reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 79% until 2050 and full carbon neutrality in 2060, Kommersant business daily reported on Wednesday.

According to the strategy’s intensive scenario, the emissions will grow by 0.6% until 2030, and fall by 79% from the current level until 2050. Russia’s energy exports will decrease by 2%, and non-energy exports will grow by 4.3% annually. Gross domestic product (GDP) growth is expected at 3% annually in 2030–2050, and will slow down to 2.7% annually by the end of 2040s.

Overall investment in reduction of emissions are projected at 1% of GDP in 2022–2030, and 1.5–2% of GDP in 2031–2050.
